Women Entrepreneurs Slay the Runway at La Grande Fashion & Lifestyle

On Mar 5, 2023, the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry Lahore organized La Grande Fashion and Lifestyle —an evening of elevated styles and women in the limelight. Complete with a runway, lights, models, and all the glamor of a fashion show, this event aimed to spotlight emerging female designers and woman-owned businesses.

As content partners, we couldn’t agree more with the central message and purpose of the event. Much like the mission of Storyteller’s Saga— to build brands and tell the stories of female entrepreneurs— the Women’s Chamber of Commerce echoes this value in its slogan,

“We are a group of individuals who believe in the potential of women entrepreneurs in Pakistan.”

Celebrating Women’s Creativity

La Grande Fashion showcase brought together creative female talent from Pakistan and the diaspora. The featured brands included Madeeha Shoaib, Tafetan by Maham Fida, Unaiza Mir, and Lussoro

The designers showcased a range of styles, from classic to contemporary and from chic casual to bridal gowns. As soon as the models hit the runway, it was clear that each piece carried the designer’s unique personality and creativity. The clothes were beautifully crafted, with intricate embroideries, sequined patterns, and unique designs showcasing the immense talent of their visionary artists.

The success of this event is particularly significant because of its celebration of femininity and womanhood. The fact is that when women make strides and gain recognition for their work, their efforts are devalued. We see this in the way that careers in fashion, cosmetics, and social media influence — industries collectively valued at $532 billion and dominated by women —are often overlooked as serious professions in the first place.

Creating a Space for Mentorship and Collaboration

But La Grande Fashion insists that we see designers, stylists, make-up artists, and models all as creative and skilled businesswomen in their rite. Much like the challenges for women across industries in Pakistan, being a “working woman” holds a certain element of shame. The lack of opportunities for collaboration and mentorship amplifies this feeling.

It is precisely these opportunities that the Women’s Chamber of Commerce advocates for and strives to cultivate. Throughout the event, keynote speakers included Aisha Khurram, Vice President at WCCI, and Dr. Shehla Javed Akram, Founder of WCCI.

Khurram opened the event by noting, “it is important for women to find spaces to share their successes.”

Just before closing,

Akram noted, “Storyteller’s Saga is also trying to improve the same way as WCCI. They are trying to develop and advance women-led businesses and appreciate them, and we see that.”

The Founder President of WCCI Lahore, Dr. Shehla Javed Akram, shares her views on Storyteller’s Saga.

The WCCI La Grande Fashion & Lifestyle event was a triumph. It showcased the rich talent of female designers, promoted diversity and inclusivity, and empowered women in the fashion industry. It was a reminder that when women support and uplift each other, they are not limited in what they can achieve.
